Pocan calls Biden ‘crystal clear’ choice after earlier endorsing Sanders

MADISON – U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan called former Vice President Joe Biden the “crystal clear” choice for president Thursday despite earlier endorsing U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

The Democrat from rural Dane County made the comment during a conference call with reporters to tout Biden’s plan to safely and effectively re-open the country — and Wisconsin — during the coronavirus pandemic.

Pocan in January endorsed Sanders but like most Democrats got behind Biden after it became clear he would clinch the party’s nomination.

Thursday’s call came ahead of Vice President Mike Pence’s planned visit to Pewaukee on Tuesday. “I hope he brings some (hospital) gowns with him, because we need them in Wisconsin,” Pocan said.

“Clearly this administration has had no idea how to handle what’s going on from the very beginning,” Pocan said. “To call it haphazard or a disaster is really an insult to the words haphazard and disaster by what’s happened with the Trump administration.”
