Sawyer County officials say a 3-year-old girl who followed her dog into some woods in northwestern Wisconsin on Sunday evening has been found alive.

A massive search was launched for Abigail Ladwig and her dog, a gold and tan cocker spaniel mix, according to the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department.

Details surrounding her discovery — where and how she was found as well as what time she was discovered — were not released by the Sheriff’s Department Monday night.

Clad in a black shirt with a flower on it, Abigail was last seen when she ran barefoot into woods at 6:45 p.m. Sunday at her family home southwest of Winter, about 20 miles north of Ladysmith.

The Sheriff’s Department wrote on its Facebook page Monday afternoon that volunteers who wanted to search for the little girl and her dog should check in to the ballpark in Winter. An influx of volunteers descended on the small community.
